Innaloo
Innaloo is an established suburb in the City of Stirling, around 9 kilometres northwest of Perth’s CBD. The suburb’s original Noongar name was Njookenbooroo, believed to refer to Herdsman Lake or a nearby wetland. In 1927, anthropologist Daisy Bates was asked by the local progress association to suggest alternative names, and her rendering of the Dongara personal name “Innaloo” was chosen. The Njookenbooroo School on Odin Road opened in 1915, and though subdivision was approved in 1916, development was slow until World War II accelerated residential growth. In the 1950s, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer built a drive-in cinema that eventually evolved into today’s Event Cinemas complex, the first cinema megaplex in Western Australia when it expanded to 18 screens in 1996. Westfield Innaloo, adjacent to the cinema, is the suburb’s major shopping destination. Innaloo is also home to the first Hungry Jack’s restaurant in Australia, open since 1971. Homes in Innaloo are predominantly from the 1950s through to the 1970s, and bathrooms from this era show the full range of age-related deterioration. The Grout Guy services Innaloo with tile regrouting, leaking shower repair, silicone replacement, and tile and grout sealing. Fixed pricing. No tile removal.
