Naval Base
Naval Base is a coastal suburb in the City of Kwinana, around 36 kilometres south of Perth’s CBD, with a name that carries one of Western Australia’s most ambitious failed engineering histories. Planned in 1911 and commenced in 1913, the Henderson Naval Base was envisaged as Britain’s principal base in the Indian-Pacific region, designed to house 7,500 men, 17 armoured ships, and nine submarines. Labour shortages, the rising cost of harbour dredging, and the diversion of resources to the First World War halted construction, and the project was cancelled completely in 1920 in favour of a base in Singapore. The site eventually gave rise to HMAS Stirling, which opened in 1978 on nearby Garden Island. Today Naval Base is primarily an industrial suburb, home to significant heavy industry and the Naval Base campus of South Metropolitan TAFE, which houses the Western Australian Defence Industry Workforce Office and the Naval Shipbuilding College. For the residential properties that do exist in the area, bathroom maintenance is as necessary as anywhere in Perth’s southern corridor: grout staining from hard bore water and silicone breakdown around shower enclosures are routine issues. The Grout Guy services Naval Base with tile regrouting, leaking shower repair, silicone replacement, and tile and grout sealing. Fixed pricing. No tile removal. A 10-Year Waterproof Warranty on complete regrouts. Contact The Grout Guy today for a Naval Base quote.
