Wembley
Wembley is an established inner suburb of Perth in the City of Stirling, about 6 kilometres from the CBD, named after the London suburb of Wembley. The area was originally inhabited by the Mooro people of the Noongar Aboriginal clan for at least 40,000 years, and was part of a crown land grant of 100 acres issued to Thomas Hunt in 1842. The suburb was formally named Wembley Park in 1924, with the name shortened to Wembley in 1935. Key population growth came between 1910 and 1930, and again in the post-war years. Herdsman Lake, within the suburb’s boundaries, is one of the few remaining lakes on the Perth coastal plain and holds significant Aboriginal cultural heritage. Galup Lake, formerly known as Lake Monger, was officially renamed in 2025, resuming its original Noongar name after decades under its European name. The Wembley Hotel on Cambridge Street, designed by Edgar Le B Henderson and built in 1932, is a local heritage landmark. Herdsman Fresh, an iconic fresh produce market that has operated since 1979, serves the community and the wider north-metropolitan area. Wembley is a leafy, upper middle class suburb with character homes that are highly sought after. Older homes with original bathroom tiling frequently carry deteriorated grout and silicone that has been in place for decades. The Grout Guy provides tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing across Wembley. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
