Woodlands
Woodlands is a leafy, family-oriented suburb in the City of Stirling, about 9 kilometres north of the Perth CBD. Part of the area was originally assigned to Thomas William Mews in 1831, and the land later formed part of the Woodlands Estate owned by John Daniel Manning, whose family ran a dairy in South Perth and used the Woodlands land for summer cattle paddocks. The suburb name was chosen by the original subdividers to reflect the wooded character of the area, and the street naming scheme reinforces the theme, with roads named after oak, elm, birch, sandalwood and willow trees. Jackadder Lake, first recorded as Mews Lake in 1831, is the suburb’s primary open space and provides a popular passive recreation area for residents. Our Lady of the Rosary church, built in 1973 using Toodyay stone specially hewn for the project, is a historically significant landmark and a notable example of the Dominican Order’s contribution to the suburb’s development. Woodlands Village, the neighbourhood retail area in the suburb’s centre, serves everyday shopping needs. Development has continued in Woodlands, with the Floreat Lakes Estate on the south-eastern edge subdivided as recently as 1991. Homes across the suburb’s different development eras vary in condition, and older bathrooms frequently carry deteriorated grout and silicone. The Grout Guy services Woodlands for tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
