Wungong
Wungong is a semi-rural suburb in the City of Armadale, midway between Armadale and Byford. The name is Aboriginal in origin, meaning “embracing” in the Nyungar language, derived from the way the north and south branches of Wungong Brook flow together. The area was first surveyed by Alfred Hillman in January 1835, and its earliest recorded name appears on J W Gregory’s 1844 survey. The South Western Railway was constructed through the area in late 1892, and a community hall built in 1913 became the main gathering place for residents for five decades. Wungong Dam, one of Perth’s largest water reservoirs built in 1979, is a significant infrastructure landmark within the suburb. The Armadale Reptile and Wildlife Centre, a private wildlife sanctuary that opened in 1995, houses the largest public display of reptiles and amphibians in Western Australia. Bungendore Park and Wongong Gorge provide protected bushland that has been conserved since 1908. From the late 1980s, progressive suburban development has expanded Wungong into the metropolitan area. Both older established properties and newer suburban homes exist in Wungong, and wet area maintenance is a consistent need across both. The Grout Guy services Wungong for tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
