Mount Helena
Mount Helena is a hills suburb in the Shire of Mundaring, around 35 kilometres east of Perth’s CBD on the Darling Scarp. The suburb’s origins lie in the timber industry: it was first established as a sawmill site in 1882, known as Lion Mill, where White’s Mill supplied timber for prominent Perth buildings including the interior of St George’s Anglican Cathedral and sleepers for the Eastern Railway. By 1889, Lion Jarrah Mill had taken over, producing dressed timber and the early tongue-and-groove boards that shaped colonial-era construction. The name Mount Helena was chosen by residents in a community vote in 1924, selected as a name evocative of the hilly Helena Valley landscape. The historic Mount Helena Tavern, which has been in operation since 1902 and sits alongside the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, is one of the Perth Hills’ most recognised heritage buildings. The annual Hills Billy Cart Festival, run each October, draws visitors from across the metropolitan area. Properties in Mount Helena are predominantly older homes on generous bush blocks, where bathrooms have often not been professionally restored in many years. The Grout Guy services Mount Helena with tile regrouting, leaking shower repair, silicone replacement, and tile and grout sealing. Fixed pricing. No tile removal. A 10-Year Waterproof Warranty on full regrouts. Get in touch today for a Mount Helena quote.
