Nedlands
Nedlands is an inner western suburb in the City of Nedlands, around 5 kilometres west of Perth’s CBD, believed to take its name from “Ned’s Land,” a property owned by Edward Bruce, son of Colonel John Bruce who purchased land in the area in 1854. The district’s first settler, Adam Armstrong, was granted land in 1831, naming his farm Dalkeith after a Scottish town. The suburb grew steadily from the early twentieth century, with the Nedlands Park Hotel, the jetty, and the Crawley Baths establishing the foreshore as one of Perth’s most popular recreation areas from 1908. The University of Western Australia, established in 1911 along the Swan River foreshore, is Nedlands’ most significant landmark and one of Australia’s leading research universities. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital anchors the suburb’s role as a healthcare hub. Along Stirling Highway, the former Windsor Theatre, Nedlands Post Office, and the heritage Renkema Buildings reflect the suburb’s inter-war architectural character. The Peace Memorial Rose Garden, dedicated in 1951, commemorates lives lost in war. With housing ranging from 1900s character homes through to later mid-century builds, bathrooms in Nedlands often carry decades of grout staining and silicone failure. The Grout Guy services Nedlands with tile regrouting, leaking shower repair, silicone replacement, and tile and grout sealing. Fixed pricing. No tile removal.
