Sorrento
Sorrento is a well-established coastal suburb in the City of Joondalup, about 23 kilometres north of the Perth CBD along the Indian Ocean foreshore. It was named after the Italian seaside town near Naples, a nod taken from a private subdivision surveyed in 1929 when the area was being opened up to residential development. Before that, it was fishing shack country, popular from the 1930s with anglers and holiday-goers who built boatsheds along the beach. The first European settler, master whaler Patrick Marmion, had a whaling station here as early as 1849, and a monument to him still stands in Geneff Park. Sacred Heart College, established at its Sorrento site in 1967, has become one of the area’s most significant institutions. Hillarys Boat Harbour, built in preparation for Australia’s 1987 America’s Cup defence, sits just to the north and its retail complex Sorrento Quay has been a popular destination since opening in late 1987. Off the coast, Marmion Marine Park provides snorkelling and diving grounds popular with locals year-round. Sorrento has two beaches, multiple parks and a relaxed coastal lifestyle that has kept it in demand for decades. Sea air and high humidity accelerate wear in bathroom tiling, and leaking showers are a common problem in Sorrento’s older homes. The Grout Guy provides tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
