Thornlie
Thornlie is a large established suburb in the City of Gosnells, about 15 kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD. The area has a long history, with Captain Peter Pegus granted the land in 1829 and naming his property “Coleraine.” The suburb’s current name derives from Thornlie Park, a farm established by Frank and Amy James in 1884. Residential development began in the late 1950s, with the suburb growing in five distinct stages through to the 1980s. Thornlie Square Shopping Centre, opened in 1970, was the first enclosed mall shopping centre in Western Australia and is now heritage-listed for its role in retail history. Crestwood Estate within Thornlie is internationally recognised as one of the most successful implementations of the Radburn urban design principles, where pedestrian paths and community open space were integrated into the street layout from the start. Thornlie’s blocks are typically large, running 700 to 900 square metres, and the suburb is known for its tree canopy and leafy streetscapes. The Thornlie community has a strong identity, shaped by its relatively self-contained origins as a planned housing estate. Homes from the 1960s through to the 1980s are common in Thornlie, and bathrooms in this era of construction frequently show deteriorated grout, stained tile joints and failing silicone around showers. The Grout Guy handles tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
