Wanneroo
Wanneroo is one of Perth’s oldest settled districts, with a name derived from Whadjuk Noongar words meaning “a place where women dig up roots.” The Whadjuk and Yued people moved through this coastal sandplain country for tens of thousands of years before European settlers arrived in 1838 and began taking up land grants for cattle grazing, market gardening and poultry farming. The township of Wanneroo established itself in the 1880s, and a Roads Board was formed in 1902. The City of Wanneroo is now one of WA’s largest and fastest-growing local governments, covering 685 square kilometres across 36 suburbs. Wanneroo itself, as the district’s original town centre, carries the area’s heritage. Buckingham House, built by John Buckingham between 1880 and 1890 from limestone and timber, is a rare surviving example of the modest rural dwellings farmers built in the district at the end of the 19th century. The Wanneroo Regional Museum, opened in 2009, tells the story of the district’s Indigenous past and pioneering history. The Wanneroo Agricultural Show, held annually since 1909, is the state’s largest regional agricultural show. Neerabup National Park, Yanchep National Park and Wanneroo Botanic Gardens give the broader area significant natural assets. Older homes in the original Wanneroo townsite frequently carry bathroom tiling that reflects the suburb’s age. The Grout Guy handles tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty. Book with The Grout Guy today.
