Wellard
Wellard is a residential suburb in the City of Kwinana, about 37 kilometres south of Perth’s CBD. The suburb was named in 1923 after John Wellard, an early settler who farmed land approximately 7.5 kilometres from what is now the suburb. Before residential development, the area was known as 13-Mile Camp, part of the Peel Estate, and European settlers in the 1920s worked the rich earth to grow fruit and vegetables for Perth’s growing population. On Parrot Bush Hill on the south side of Wellard Road, three concrete bunker structures and remnants of radar towers from a RAAF 228 Radar Station stand as reminders of the coastal defence system erected during World War II. These structures are listed heritage items. Wellard is notable for being Perth’s first transit-oriented development on the Mandurah rail line, with The Village at Wellard, a 320-hectare mixed-use development, built to integrate housing directly with train access. The suburb’s centre contains a large circular wetland area surrounded by residential streets, parks and local retail. Wellard Square shopping centre anchors the commercial area, alongside Bonney’s WA Water Ski Park. As a planned community with a mix of older and newer homes, Wellard sees the full range of tiling and wet area maintenance issues. The Grout Guy provides tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty. Book with The Grout Guy today.
