Whiteman
Whiteman is a northern locality of Perth, 18 kilometres from the CBD, best known as the home of Whiteman Park, one of the city’s most significant recreation and conservation reserves. The park covers nearly 4,000 hectares of natural bushland and leisure facilities, and takes its name from Lew Whiteman (1903-1994), who purchased land in the area in 1939 for cattle grazing and developed the popular Mussel Pool picnic area in the 1960s. The State Government purchased landholdings progressively from 1977 to 1990, and Whiteman Park was officially opened in 1986 in recognition of Lew Whiteman’s role in creating the public open space. Mussel Pool, a permanent water body fed by groundwater from the Gnangara Mound, sits at the heart of the park. The park’s transport heritage theme is a distinctive drawcard, with five independent community groups operating collections of historic vehicles, including the Perth Electric Tramway Society which runs trams over 4 kilometres of standard gauge track through the parkland. Whiteman Park is home to over 450 endemic plant species and more than 120 vertebrate animals, with more than 17% of Western Australian bird species recorded there. Residents in and around Whiteman’s rural-residential pockets benefit from access to this extraordinary reserve on their doorstep. Older rural homes in the area often have bathrooms that have gone without proper maintenance for years. The Grout Guy services Whiteman for tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
