Wooroloo
Wooroloo is a small town on the outer eastern fringe of the Perth metropolitan region, within the Shire of Mundaring off the Great Eastern Highway. The name comes from a Noongar word first recorded in 1841, and a Noongar elder who was consulted during a renaming process translated Wooroloo as “come back again” or “you will return.” A timber mill operated by the Byfield Brothers commenced in the 1880s, and the settlement that grew around it became a railway stop on the Eastern Railway in 1893 before being formally named Wooroloo in 1897. The Wooroloo Sanatorium for tuberculosis and leprosy was built in 1915, and after the facility was no longer needed medically, it became a general hospital before Corrective Services took over the site in 1972 as a prison. El Caballo Resort, developed from the first Andalusian horse stud in Australia established at Wooroloo, became a notable attraction with a convention centre, 18-hole golf course and horse dressage displays. Wooroloo Regional Park surrounds the townsite with bushland, and the community hall, primary school, general store and post office serve the area’s 2,600 residents. Properties in Wooroloo tend to be older and rural in character, and bathroom maintenance is often deferred in outer-fringe properties. The Grout Guy services Wooroloo for tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty.
