Yangebup
Yangebup is a suburb in the City of Cockburn, about 18 kilometres south of Perth’s CBD. The name was first recorded in 1841 and is believed to derive from the Noongar word “Yanget,” referring to the native flax or bulrush found around the lake. The name was formally approved for the suburb in 1977. The area surrounding Yangebup Lake was a camping, gathering and hunting ground for the local Wadjuk Noongar people for an estimated 40,000 years, and the lake remains a registered site of Aboriginal cultural significance. European settlement began in the 1880s with land grants for grazing, poultry and pig farming. In the 1920s, a wool scouring industry established on the lake’s eastern shore used the fresh water for processing, operating for 70 years before ceasing. The enterprise left behind pollution issues in the lake sediment, and remediation has been an ongoing concern. Yangebup Lake, part of the Beeliar Regional Park, is the suburb’s central natural feature, with walking trails and birdwatching opportunities. Nicholson Reserve and Ronsard Park provide additional community sporting and open space. Yangebup has a well-established residential character, with homes ranging from the 1980s through to the present day. Bathrooms in the older properties commonly show deteriorated grout and silicone that has failed around showers. The Grout Guy provides tile regrouting, leaking shower repairs, silicone replacement and tile and grout sealing. Complete regrouts include a 10-Year Waterproof Warranty. Book with The Grout Guy today.
